Antonia Richardson
Antonia Richardson owns and operates Mercury Project in San Antonio, Texas, an art gallery, professional artist studios, and space for all things creative, featuring artists, film makers, music, photography and performance art. Mercury Project hosts painting workshops, art talks and critiques to share and develop the artist community. Antonia was born in Seguin, Texas and raised along the verdant Guadalupe River were she quietly discovered Nature’s play of light, shadow, color and shape. After working in various mediums and styles in her youth, Antonia studied classical oil, water color, design, mixed media, drawing, and portraiture at San Antonio College and Southwest School of Art, ultimately focusing on painting. Her passion for abstract lead her to “El Maestro”, Alberto Mijangos, where she nurtured a newfound freedom in her art, allowing her to begin a journey into the abstract. Acrylics became her medium of choice. Studying under artist Missi Smith, Antonia began to include found objects, construction materials and composites. Antonia spent two years painting among a diverse group of artists at the High Wire Art Gallery in San Antonio. This experience inspired her to further broaden her exposure in the art world by moving to la Cruz de Huanacaxtle in her grandfather’s native Mexico. There she took a studio where influenced by the sea and tropical surroundings her palette shifted to the vibrant hues of beach life. Today Antonia continues to be represented by Pasha Gallery in Punta de Mita, AnArte Gallery, San Antonio and Mercury Project where Antonia paints in her studio and continues to grow, build and share her creative passion with the community and beyond.
